Okay, so here’s a novel idea. We give some of the emerging acts we have featured or are soon to be featuring on our podcast some space on our humble website. We furnish you with some more information on them, throw in a few links for further reading/listening. . . and call it “Introducing…”. Genius.
Some acts we just need to shout about a little more!
So for our first “Introducing…” please open your arms wide and welcome The Maginot Band.
Listeners to our podcast may remember us featuring a band from Caithness in the North of Scortland called The Maydays. Well, guess what? The Maydays are now The Maginot Band.
The band in their various guises and line ups have been writing music together on and off for the past decade. Consisting of Jordan Shearer (vocals), Calvin Wilson (bass, vocals), Kevin Swanson (guitar, Vocals), Jamie Swanson (guitar), Liam Whittles(organ, piano) and Darren Coghill (drums), as Maydays they gained some success supporting Field Music and Tango In The Attic as well as support from BBC Radio 1. However, as their musical direction started to mature, they decided a change of name was needed and The Maginot Band was born.
This maybe old news to you as you may have recognised the Maignot Band at this year’s goNORTH or at the Belladrum Tartan Heart Festival where they debuted their new material. They are now set to release their debut EP, Peace and Quiet, via When You Awake Records on 10th September 2012.
To mark the launch of the EP the band are hosting a gig and after-party in a remote location in Caithness in an old abandoned, roofless cottage! They plan to turn the unique stage into a fully functioning venue for the evening and will be joined by fellow Caithnessians Oskar Empire and 60 guests!
The band have also announced dates at Mad Hatters in Inverness on Saturday 22nd September, Flat 0/1 in Glasgow on Saturday 6th October and at Sneaky Petes in Edinburgh on Sunday 7th October.
