Our third Takeover at Mad Hatters in Inverness will feature 3 brilliant emerging new acts including the hotly tipped Discopolis. And, we are rather chuffed with this bulging line up.
Chris Devotion and The Expectations, Naked Strangers with special guests Discopolis will bring an eclectic and boundless energy to our third Takeover night on Friday 26th October.
Delivering some straightforward no nonsense rock ‘n’ roll with big hooks will be Glasgow’s Chris Devotion and the Expectations. Their sharp lyrics are wrapped in loud melodies with a nod to the likes of countless 50s Rock ‘n’ Roll bands fused with The Buzzcocks. They rocked the goNORTH Seedlings Stage at this year’s Belladrum as well as securing a slot on the prestigious T Break stage at T In The Park 2012. BBC Radio Scotland’s Vic Galloway sums them up nicely: “Imagine The Ramones, Elvis Costello, Bruce Springsteen and The Replacements having a punch-up”.
Representing the “home” team on the night will be Ullapool’s Naked Strangers. The punky/bluesy 5 piece are fresh from their appearance at this year’s sell out Loopallu Festival. They have toured throughout Scotland including support slots fro Mumford & Sons, Hazey Janes and General Fiasco. Their latest release Mystery Meat showcases their loud swagger perfectly and has picked up positive reviews from the likes of the Peenko blog and Ravechild.
For our third act we are delighted to announce Discopolis as our special guests. The Edinburgh rock electronica trio have been championed by the likes of BBC Radio 1’s Ally MacRae, Amazing Radio’s Jim Gellatly and have recorded sessions for BBC Radio Scotland’s Vic Galloway as well as appearing at T In The Park T Break, Wickerman and both Reading and Leeds as well as been tipped by NME. The band also delivered a euphoric set on the main stage at this year’s Rockness Festival.
The band have also found success in Japan where they released the ten track demo/album Cold Summers. For a band that first came on the scene in late 2010 their ascent has been nothing short of impressive. Not bad for a band that started off as a Bloc Party tribute act!
The date for your diary is Friday 26th October at Mad Hatters, Inverness. It’s free entry and doors open at 9:30pm. Takeover DJs (yes it will probably be Murray and Jamie and someone yet to be identified!) will close the night playing a wide range of alternative anthems until 3am whilst swimming in a vat of Jager.
Please drink responsibly.
