We started an irregular feature back in 2012 called “Introducing…” through which we shone the spotlight further on some of the acts we featured on our weekly podcast. To be honest “Introducing…” was a bit of a lame title and the feature disappeared mid way through this year. However It’s back. Still with the same piss poor title.
Now the routine for Netsounds when it comes to recording a podcast has always pretty much been that Murray and I don’t share our playlist with each other before recording. It’s not a formal arrangement, it’s just the way it happens and works rather well for us. Only once, maybe twice has this process ended in bloodshed and a handful of times have we picked the same act and sometimes the same song.
Wake, has been two years in making for the Edinburgh based indie-folk band. Wake follows on from the release of debut single ‘Son’ and the album track ‘No Original Art’.
The band have also just released a free, pre-Christmas download of the album track Fireworks.
Dante showcases the songwriting talents of Séan McLaughlin (a member of Idlewild‘s Rod Jones’ solo project, The Birthday Suit). The album was part produced and recorded by Frightened Rabbit‘s Andy Monaghan, who also appears on the record playing bass and guitar. He is joined by ex Aberfeldy member Vicky Gray , Stephen Thom, Ruaridh Kidd and Stuart Hosking.
Collectively they have created an atmospheric and rousing sound with just the right mix of Celtic-ness that would be perfect listing to on top of a mountain a million miles away from the cacophony of the city. In fact that’s just what they have done. The album was actually written in the Shetland Islands where Sean and Vicky were born.
Wake by Dante is out via Stitch Records and available to buy now on iTunes.
